“Whimsy and Blooms”

Take a garden stroll and shop ‘til you drop at a local festival

“Whimsy and Blooms,” the highly touted two-day market, farm tour and festival in Franklin is back and bigger this year in late June. The private property of Glenn and Constance McAlpine becomes a unique public treasure in the marrying of retail, entertainment and gardening.
This year’s festival starts with a Garden Party open 4-8 p.m. June 24 and continues from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 25. Tickets are available at Vintage Whimsy, 112 W. Jefferson St. in Franklin or at www.vintagewhimsyhome.com/whimsy-and-blooms.
Here are the digs on this year’s event: Vendors will offer a variety of plants, flowers, antiques, garden decor, art and metal work, clothing, jewelry and natural bath, body and skincare products. More than 70 vendors will be in attendance.
Live entertainment and food trucks will complement the piece ‘de resistance, which is tours of the 10 unique gardens on the McAlpine working farmstead. However, festival goers are welcome to bring their own food and dine at one of the many picnic areas throughout the gardens.
The idea for “Whimsy and Blooms” came to fruition in 2019, thanks to Jennifer Shireman, the McAlpine’s daughter, and even though the pandemic threw a wrench in plans, the festival continues to gain notoriety across the state.
“There truly is nothing like this and it really is a genuine labor of love for our family. For a moment, you step into what is authentically a part of my parents’ daily lives, their passion and their expertise,” Jennifer Shireman says.
Even though still in its infancy, “Whimsy and Blooms” boasts the unique ability to change and adapt each year. With each festival, the gardens change and grow, vendors and retail goods evolve, making the event a must-see each time.
