Winter Bookish Events

A good book is the perfect excuse to stay inside. But what if a good book – or bookish event – were the perfect excuse to get you out of the house? Both the Johnson County Public Libraries and the Greenwood Public Library calendars are stuffed with events; here, a few highlights.

Family Movie Event: “National Treasure”

Greenwood Public Library
Join your pals at the Greenwood Public Library as they celebrate Reading through the Ages. This afternoon of fun and games includes crafts and trivia, a screening of PG-rated “National Treasure” and a family scavenger hunt. Information: greenwoodlibrary.us.

Cat Café
1 to 2 p.m. Jan. 25
Clark Pleasant Branch
See why time spent with cats is never wasted at the Clark Pleasant Branch’s Cat Café. Enjoy refreshments as you snuggle up to adoptable felines from the Humane Society of Johnson County. Information: pageafterpage.org.

Snuggle up with a Book Ball
all day Jan. 25
This might be the coziest fundraiser ever. The Johnson County Public Library Foundation’s Snuggle Up with a Book Ball takes place wherever you are. During this non-event, which has a black tie or pajamas dress code, you can drop off a cash or check donation or make the gift over your phone. All donations benefit the JCPL’s Authors at JCPL series. Make sure to broadcast the love for JCPL on Facebook or Instagram by sharing the book you’re reading; hashtag #JCPLBookBall or #SnuggleUpBookBall; there are fun prizes for donors. Information: pageafterpage.org.

Bookish Diner: Historical Fiction and High Tea
6 p.m. Jan. 27
Greenwood Public Library
Talk books with some of your favorite librarians, who will discuss historical fiction novels and the recipes inspired by them, and with a guest speaker, who will talk about teas. This event is open for ages 18 and older. Information and registration at greenwoodlibrary.us or by phone at (317) 885-5036.
