summer reading programs

By Jenny Elig

Although the warmer weather yields plenty of opportunities for socializing, what would the season be without one of the most solitary of all activities: reading?
Our public libraries know just how hot and/or cool reading is and are offering once again this seasonal staple: summer reading programs. Both the Greenwood Public Library and the Johnson County Public Library have their summer reading programs in full swing. But it’s not too late to join the reading. Get your little ones and not-so-little ones signed up today. And don’t forget about yourself.

GPL’s Adventures in Reading
Through July 25
GPL’s summer reading program is all about adventure and includes the Adventures in Reading virtual programs, as well as the classic reading program. Sign up on the website, greenwoodlibrary.us/summer, then start logging the time you read to win raffle tickets toward some great prize packs.

JCPL’s Explore Summer
Through July 31
The more you read, the more the JCPL Foundation will donate to a local nonprofit. That’s right. Your reading can make Johnson County an even better place to live, work, learn and play. For every 1 million minutes logged during the Explore Summer reading program, the JCPL Foundation, with contributions from the Friends of the Library, will donate $1,000.
